Challenges and Developments
NSSC, Japan’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, was established in October 2003 through the consolidation of the stainless steel divisions of Nippon Steel Corporation and Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd.
Since our establishment, we have continually tackled new challenges including development of new products, new product technologies and new business model such as changes in trade practices, as a leading company in the stainless steel industry.

The state-owned Yawata Steel Works began operation.

1921
Production of ferritic stainless steel began at Yawata Works.

1934
Nippon Stainless Steel was established.

1955
Operations at the Hikari Works began.

1970
Yawata Steel and Fuji Steel merged to form Nippon Steel Corporation.

1992
Nippon Stainless Steel merged with Sumitomo Metal Industries.
